Summer Home Learning Activities
Learn · Play · Grow
Longer days mean more time for hands-on play. These activities keep skills sharp over the summer and help ease the transition back into a fall routine.
Sidewalk Chalk Numbers
Write the numbers 1 through 5 with sidewalk chalk, spaced apart on the driveway or sidewalk, and have your child jump from number to number while counting out loud.
What They're Learning: Number recognition and counting in order, gross motor skills and balance, and the connection between a number symbol and a quantity.
Water Play Colors
Fill a shallow bin with water and add a few drops of food coloring, or give your child a few colored cups to pour between. Talk about what happens when colors combine.
What They're Learning: Color mixing and cause and effect, sensory exploration, and early measurement concepts like full, empty, more, and less.
Letter Scavenger Hunt
Choose a letter your child is currently learning and walk through the house together looking for objects that start with that sound.
What They're Learning: Letter-sound recognition, vocabulary building, and categorization skills as they decide what does and doesn't belong.
Family Story Time
Take turns adding one sentence each to build a simple made-up story together.
What They're Learning: Sequencing and narrative skills, imagination and creativity, and turn-taking and listening in conversation.
