Fall Home Learning Activities

As the seasons change, these activities use the sights of fall to reinforce letters, numbers, shapes, and language in a hands-on way.
Leaf Shape Sort
Collect a handful of fallen leaves on a walk, then sort them together by size, shape, or color once you're home.
What They're Learning: Sorting and classification skills, shape and color recognition, and fine motor practice through handling and arranging the leaves.
Pumpkin Counting
Count mini pumpkins, gourds, or pumpkin seeds together, lining them up one by one.
What They're Learning: One-to-one counting and number recognition, fine motor skills, especially when counting small seeds, and early math concepts like more, less, and equal.
Alphabet Animal Walk
As you walk together, take turns naming an animal for each letter you know — “A is for alligator, B is for bear.”
What They're Learning: Letter recognition and letter-sound association, animal vocabulary, and memory recall as they build on letters already learned.
Gratitude Chat
Each night at dinner or bedtime, take turns sharing one thing you're grateful for that day.
What They're Learning: Early language and sentence-building, emotional vocabulary, and the social-emotional skill of recognizing and expressing gratitude.
